⚠️ Crucial PPF Maximizer Tip

Always Deposit on or before the 5th of the Month!

PPF interest is calculated on the minimum balance between the 5th day and the last day of each month. If you deposit on the 6th of a month, you lose interest for that entire month! For maximum returns, deposit your annual ₹1.5 Lakh before April 5th every financial year.

Everything You Need to Know About Public Provident Fund (PPF) in India

The Public Provident Fund (PPF) is an Indian government-backed savings scheme introduced in 1968 to mobilize small savings. It remains the gold standard for risk-averse Indian investors because it carries a sovereign guarantee (zero default risk) coupled with EEE tax status.

1. Partial Withdrawals & Loan Facility Against PPF

  • Loan Against PPF: Available from the 3rd financial year up to the end of the 6th financial year at an interest rate just 1% higher than the prevailing PPF rate.
  • Partial Withdrawal: Permitted from the 7th financial year onwards (up to 50% of the balance at the end of the 4th preceding year or preceding year, whichever is lower).

2. Can You Extend Your PPF Beyond 15 Years?

Yes! Upon completion of 15 years, you have two flexible extension options in blocks of 5 years:

  1. Extension with Fresh Contribution (Form H): Continue depositing up to ₹1.5 Lakh/yr while your entire accumulated balance compounds at 7.1%.
  2. Extension without Contribution: Stop putting fresh money, but let your entire balance continue earning 7.1% tax-free interest with the right to withdraw any amount once per financial year.
